The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has created a new award for a significant contribution to medicines safety.
The Society's past President, Hemant Patel, had a vision to make Britain the safest place in the world to receive medicines. As a step towards fulfilling that vision, the RPSGB has created this award. The focus of this new award is on specific improvements in medicines safety with documented benefits for patients. The award will recognise interventions or initiatives that have already been undertaken and could be rolled out more widely.
Applicants from all sectors and settings were welcome to apply, either individually, as part of a small group or an organisation, and applications are open to non pharmacists. They will be judged by an independent panel with expertise in medicines safety.
Applications should provide details of an intervention undertaken in the previous five years and can cover any part of the drug journey from development, prescribing, dispensing, administration, pharmacovigilance, commissioning services, storage or disposal, with the potential to be rolled out more widely.
The closing date for entries was 2 April 2009.
