Certificates of Current Professional Status and Fitness to Practise history

Pharmacists currently registered in Great Britain who wish to apply for registration to practise in another country will normally require the Society to send a Certificate of Current Professional Status and Fitness to Practise History (CCPS) (formerly known as a ‘Letter of Good Standing’) to the relevant registration and/or regulatory authority.

The information in the CCPS is extracted from the Society’s Register and its fitness to practise files. Therefore, the CCPS may include information which is not in the public domain.

The CCPS will include details of your full name, registered address, date of birth, details of your pharmacy education, current registration status and concluded and outstanding fitness to practise matters

Please note that if you have previously been the subject of a fitness to practise allegation(s) a summary of the case(s) and the outcome of the investigation or hearing will be disclosed in the CCPS. If at the time of your application for a CCPS you are subject to an ongoing investigation by the Society or have had an allegation referred to either the Investigating Committee or to the Society’s Disciplinary/Health Committee a summary of the outstanding matters (s) will also be provided in the CCPS.

The information that the Society intends to disclose in the CCPS relating to outstanding or concluded fitness to practise matters will be sent to you prior to the Society sending the CCPS to the relevant registration and/or regulatory authority.

Please check this information carefully and ensure that it relates to you and is accurate.

The Society will not forward the completed CCPS to the relevant registration and/or regulatory authority until you have confirmed in writing within 21 days that you wish the Society to proceed.

The administration fee for the preparation of the CCPS will be collected from you even if you subsequently advise the Society that you do not want the CCPS forwarded to the relevant registration and/or regulatory body.

The CCPS is normally valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Most registration and/or regulatory bodies around the world request this document as part of their registration process. Further information regarding registration in specific countries is available at the bottom of the page.

** Applicants for the Republic of Ireland should note that it is not the Society’s policy to complete the EUR 3 and EUR 4 forms as supplied by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland. The CCPS will meet all the registration requirements set out by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.

Please note a CCPS will usually take about two to three weeks to prepare from the date of receipt of a properly completed application form. You must ensure that your application is both timely and accurate.

Please also note that the Society may receive requests for information directly from relevant registration and/or regulatory bodies. The Society will deal with these requests in accordance with the law, in particular the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007 (or the Pharmacy Order 2009 when in force) and the rules made under the Order, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the common law duty of confidentiality.

Payment of retention fees

Pharmacists deciding to travel or work abroad are advised that retention fees must be paid as normal if they wish to retain membership of the Society. They should ensure that the address registered with the Society will enable them to receive communications in a timely manner.

If a pharmacist decides that they do not wish to continue their membership while they are away they must notify the Registrar in writing of their wish to retire from the Register. In this situation a pharmacist may be restored to the Register on payment of the appropriate retention fee.

Pharmacists should note that failure to notify the Registrar in writing of a wish to retire from the Register and failure to pay a retention fee will result in the erasure of their name from the Register in accordance will the usual procedures for non-payment of fees. In this situation subsequent restoration to the Register will require payment of the restoration fee and outstanding retention fees. For fee scales, click here.

Overseas boards
