Preregistration training is the period of employment that a person must undertake and successfully complete before they can register as a pharmacist in Great Britain. In most cases it is a one-year period following the pharmacy degree; for sandwich course students it is integrated with their undergraduate studies.

Preregistration policy development
The Society’s Preregistration Division is undertaking a review of the quality of the preregistration scheme. We commissioned a report in this area to assist in the development of future quality management strategies.
This report, published in April 2009, documents current examples of good practice in the delivery of the RPSGB preregistration scheme, and also explores the deanery approach to quality management in the delivery of medical education while discussing the advantages and disadvantages of this approach.
The Society recognises that preregistration training is provided by a wide variety of different employers, both in relation to the size of the organisation and in the variety of work-based training experience offered. The Society is therefore reviewing the recommendations in light of these differences in context.
